JR稚内駅から繁華街経由で稚内港北防波堤ドームを散策しました。
稚内駅は日本最北端の駅で、旧駅舎時代に日本最北端の線路として存在した車止めとレールがモニュメントとして残されています。
そこからほど近い稚内港北防波堤ドームは、映画やＣＭのロケ地として利用され有名になった半アーチ式の回廊です。旧樺太航路の発着場として使われたもので古代ローマ建築物を思わせる太い円柱となだらかな曲線を描き、世界でも類のない建築物として、「北海道遺産」や「土木遺産」に指定されています。
I strolled around the Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome from JR Wakkanai Station via the downtown area.
Wakkanai Station is the northernmost station in Japan, and the stop and rails that existed as the northernmost railway line in Japan during the old station building era remain as a monument.
Not far from there is the Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome, a half-arched corridor that has become famous for being used as a filming location for movies and commercials. The thick columns and gentle curves of the dome are reminiscent of ancient Roman architecture, and it has been designated as a “Hokkaido Heritage” and “Civil Engineering Heritage” as it is a unique building in the world.
